The Tractor Supply Company

was founded in 1938 by Charles E. Schmidt, Sr., in Chicago, Illinois. Charles formed a mail order business selling tractor parts. We can back up a little and say that the company began by serving the needs of the farmers and ranchers near Minot, North Dakota. Today they are located in many rural areas all across America. In each of their stores they have a staff of experts, or as they say, your friends and neighbors. They are proud to bring you the services and products you need and they aim to please their customers because they appreciate them.

By 1939 the business opened a very successful retail store in Minot, North Dakota. Today they are one of the largest retail chains in America. They serve full and part time farmers and ranchers, as well as hobby farmers, home owners, and contractors. They have over 750 stores which are located in 40 states. They also have new stores which are having open house on March 22, 2008. These stores have just recently opened and they invite the public in to see what they have to offer. These new stores are located in Tifton, Ga., Carrollton, Oh., Elizabethton, Tn., Jefferson City, Tn., Stanley, N. C., Douglas, Ga., Guymon, Ok., Youngsville (Wake Forrest), N. C., Macedonia, Oh., Whitmore Lake (Ann Arbor North), Mi., Ortonville, Mi., Prescott, Wi., and Pulaski, Va.

It doesn’t matter if you just have a backyard or if you have a “back 40", the farm store can help you with your needs. They carry a full line of farm supplies so there isn’t much that they don’t have. Many farm stores also have some of the animals on hand to sell in the spring. These are often, baby chicks, ducks, turkeys, geese, guineas, and maybe more. Many farm stores will have a chick day so the people can come in and get what they need on a specific day, weekend, or week. Plus they sell the feed that it takes to feed them. They have rabbit supplies, dog and cat supplies as well as other pet supplies. All of your garden tools needed can be found in their stores, plus the seeds and plants to plant in the gardens and in your yard. There are lawn mowers and other power tools for the yard as well as power tools for the wood worker or construction worker.

A typical Tractor Supply store has 15,000 to 24,000 square feet of space on the inside of their building. They also have a space outside (fenced in) which contains all of their fencing, posts, landscaping, extra implements for the tractor, and more.
